The 2024 Food Gathering

On Thursday, 3rd October, the Halifax Borough Market buzzed with energy and community spirit as it hosted our annual Food Gathering. The event embodied Calderdale Food Network’s mission of making healthy, affordable, and sustainable food accessible to everyone in Calderdale where the gathering drew a fantastic turnout of attendees eager to support the local food movement.

The market’s historic halls were filled with approximately 20 local food producers and organisations, each showcasing their passion and dedication to sustainable and community-centered food practices. From fresh produce to artisan goods, attendees explored a diverse array of offerings that highlighted the richness of Calderdale’s food landscape.

A highlight of the event was the culinary showcase by the Back To Our Roots project. Representing a vibrant array of cultures, the project’s cooks served up dishes that celebrated the diverse food traditions within the community. This inclusive experience underscored the importance of cultural connection through food.

The event also welcomed esteemed local representatives, including Councillor Scott Patient and Halifax Mayor Ann Kingstone, who lent their support to the initiative and praised the efforts of the Calderdale Food Network and participating organisations.

With such a strong turnout and enthusiastic participation, the Calderdale Food Gathering proved to be a resounding success. It served as a testament to the power of collaboration and community in creating a healthier, more sustainable future for all. Calderdale Food Network extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and looks forward to continuing the journey toward a thriving local food culture.
